Charlie Leibfried earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth and his M.M.Ed. from VanderCook College of Music. He has been a band director since 1977, teaching in Malta, Montana, Cloquet and Duluth. He has been the band director at Duluth Central High School since 1990. Charlie performs in the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, the UMD Faculty Brass Quintet, the St. Scholastica Early Music Orchestra, the Randy Lee Big Band and is a founding member of the Big Time Jazz Orchestra. He is a Past President of the Minnesota Band Directors Association and Past State Chair of the American School Band Directors Association and has been the trumpet section coach for the Minnesota All-State Jazz Ensemble. In 2002 he was selected as a recipient of the Minnesota Music Educator of the Year Award. Charlie enjoys running, biking, skiing, canoeing and reading in his free time. He and his wife Jean recently bicycled for a week in Ireland, enjoying traditional Irish music and the national beverage in the local pubs.
